Creative Toilet Paper

Toilet Paper Roll Birthday Calendar

If you've ever used an advent calendar, you know how much a countdown can help build anticipation for a special occasion. The same principle is at work in this clever and colorful toilet paper craft calendar. Every day of the week before his birthday, your grandchild opens a roll, revealing candy or a small gift.

If you've ever used an advent calendar, you know how much a countdown can help build anticipation for a holiday. The same principle is at work in this clever and colorful toilet paper craft calendar. Every day your grandchild can open a roll, revealing candy or even a small gift.
Materials:
  • 7 toilet paper rolls
  • White tissue paper
  • Scrapbook paper (pictured here in 6 primary colors)
  • Jelly beans or other small, light candy
  • Thick ribbon (at least 4 feet)
  • White tags, with the numbers 1 through 7 drawn on them
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • White glue (like Elmer's) or glue gun

Procedure:
1. Measure and cut 7 pieces of scrapbook paper to fit snugly around each toilet paper roll, leaving a half-inch at either end. Put them aside for now.

2. Place several jelly beans or candies into each toilet paper roll. (Do not over pack - a few will do.). Wrap them with tissue paper, twisting each end as if they were Tootsie rolls. (See picture.)

3. Tape scrapbook paper around each roll, securing in the back with tape or glue.

4. Fold ribbon in half. Leaving a large loop at one end (big enough to slip over a doorknob), glue each roll to the ribbon, making sure the seam of the scrapbook paper is hidden. The rolls should be placed very close together, so no ribbon is showing between them. Let dry completely.

5. Affix number tags to each roll. Hang in a prominent place the week before your grandchild's birthday, and let him open one roll each day.

Toilet Paper Roll Cuff Bracelets

Materials:
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Ribbon
  • White glue (like Elmers) or glue gun
  • Decorations like the following: buttons, glitter, glitter glue, markers, puff balls, stickers, confetti, etc.

Procedure:
1. Paint toilet paper rolls with craft paint and let dry. (For cuffs with ribbon, cut rolls first, then paint.)

2. Decorate! Add various buttons and designs. Let all decorations dry before the next step.
3. Cut a slit from top-to-bottom of the roll. Then, cut roll in half across the middle. Place on wrists and wear! (For cuffs with ribbon, punch a whole in each end and add ribbon. Tie together over your wrist.)
