Two days after the BlackBerry Passport launched, the business oriented handset was sold out. The number of units sold was 200,000 as BlackBerry played things conservatively in the face of the recent launch of both the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus.
Still, as John Chen pointed out earlier this week, the iPhone isn't
really competition for the Passport considering the latter's focus on things that the average businessman wants for his phone.
With
a huge 3450mAh battery that allows the phone to run more than a day
without a recharge, a screen that is perfect for business suites, and a
QWERTY keyboard that allows you to be more productive, Chen has his new
flagship phone ready to make some noise in the BYOD niche.
Earlier
Friday, BlackBerry announced that the Passport was back in stock at its
ShopBlackBerry.com website. But by the time the sun had set on
Waterloo, the phone was out of stock again, proving that the
manufacturer is on to something here. Let's just hope that this is not
the start of BlackBerry turning to "Hunger Marketing." BlackBerry needs
to pump up production of the phone in light of what looks to be stronger
than expected demand. It would be a shame if the company couldn't take
advantage of what is turning out to be its most talked about phone in,
well, ever.
