What is the use of
designing graphics if they cannot change the world? Or, can make a
difference in our life? Designs are of many types, and designers are
also of many types… but designs that changed the world or have effected
it somehow are very few.
Here, we have made a list of some of the designs that have played a role in the world that we live in today.
Wheel Design in Stone Age:
A concept of Wheel in Stone Age |
This is one of the first
designs that truly changed the world. And we all have to agree on this
one despite the fact that we do not use stone wheels today.
If wheel was not invented at that time, we will still be pushing our carts or lifting them by hands.
Helicopter by Leonardo Di Vinci:
Helicopter Concept by Leonardo Di Vinci |
Leonardo Di Vinci was an
inventor, a painter and an intellectual. He has many designs associated
with his name. But one of the designs that made a difference are the
Helicopters and Airplanes.
Though, we give the credit of plane making to Right Brothers but it was
the idea of Leonardo di Vinci who first started thinking that man can
fly.
Printing Press by Gutenberg:
A Printing Press Design by Gutenber |
If printing press would
not have been developed, then those of you who are reading this blog in
day time would have been working in the fields or in a coal mine while
those of you reading this blog in day time would have been either
sleeping or counting stars on top of your houses.
Printing press has not only made book making easier but whole of the
communication process today depends on it. If it would not have been
made, there would have been no computers no internet and small quantity
of hand written books.
Steam Engine – The beginning of Locomotives:
Steam Engine by James Watt |
Well steam engine was
not the work of just one person. There are many contributors of this
machine and they all deserve the credit for it. James Watt first
patented the Steam engine so he deserves the most credit.
This is one design that has changed the history of the world. Without
steam engine, their would have been no industries in America, India and
even Europe itself.
First Personal Computer:
Personal Computer Design by Jef Raskin |
The decision by Steve
Jobs to bring computing in homes was one of the wisest decisions ever
made. The design that was needed for such a computer was obviously a
tough one but the credit goes to Jef Raskin.
The idea quickly caught the trend and other computer operators quickly
jumped in. Today, the design of computers has not much changed if we
consider desktop computers.
Touch Screens – The Future of IT:
IBM Simon Personal Communicator Design |
If it was not for that
IBM Simon Personal Communicator, and the designers behind it, we would
still have been pressing numbers on our keypads and using small screens
to view our files. However the concept of Touch screen has made a
paradigm shift in the IT world. Now, all types of technologies are being
made that include touchscreens.
This is one of the designs that has not only minimized the keypads but have merged them with the screens.
