Ma'rifat term comes from the word "Al-Ma'rifah" which means knowing or knowing something. And if it is connected with the practice of Sufism, the term ma'rifat
here means to know God when Shufi reach the station in Sufism.

c. Imam Al-Qusyairy express opinions Abdur Rahman bin Muhammad binAbdillah who said:"Ma'rigfat makes peace in the heart, as science makes peace (in the mind). Anyone who increased ma'rifatnya, it also increases the serenity (her)."
Not everyone who demands the teachings of Sufism can be up to the level of ma'rifat. Therefore, Shufi already get ma'rifat, have certain signs, as well as information Dzuun Nuun Al-Mishriy saying; there are some signs that are owned by Shufi when it came to levels ma'rifat, among others:

a. Rawiim Imam said, Shufi which has reached levels ma'rifat, as if he were in front of the mirror; when he sees it, he would see God in it. He will no longer see himself in the mirror, because it was late (hulul) in his Lord. Then nothing else he sees in the mirror, but only Allah alone.
b. Al-Junaid Al-Bahdaadiy said, Shufi which has reached levels ma'rifat, like the nature of water in the glass, which always resembles the color of the glass. That is, Shufi who is late (hulul) in his Lord always takes on the properties and His will. Then he said again that a Shufi, always feel sorry and stricken when a memory when God interrupted even if only a fleeting moment.
c. Sahl bin Abdillah said, the actual peak ma'rifat it is a state that was filled with astonishment when Shufi kekagumam and locked eyes with his Lord, so that the situation was brought to his forgetfulness.
Four stages that must be passed by Shufi when pursue the teachings of Sufism, must be gone through sequentially; ranging from Sharia, the Order, Nature and Ma'rifat. It is impossible can be taken in reverse, and none too intermittently.
