Al
Allama Arifbillah Al Quthub Al Habib Umar bin Muhammad bin Hasan bin
Hud Al Attas was born by a woman named Syarifah Nur shalihah bint Hasan
Al Attas in Huraidhah, South Yemen in 1313 H (1892 AD). One

Muhammad Habib, Habib Umar's father had already lived in Indonesia, after 20 years he devoted himself an imam in the mosque of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani who was in town Huraidhah. Habib Umar has several brothers, including Habib Umar (her brother who had died before he was born) and Habib Salim who care for him as a child. Habib Umar was 15 years old when his mother died, after which he moved and lived in Indonesia.

Among his perseverance in studying, he always came to the gathering Habib Abdullah bin Mohsen Al Attas in Sacred Pond, Bogor using a bicycle, when he lived in Jakarta. 1965 M, he gets isyarah to settle in the holy city of Makkah Al Mukarramah. Habib Umar then went along with 11 brothers by ship. When in the middle of the sea, come storm caused the ship to be shaky. Seeing such a case, then he ordered everything on the ship was to read Ratib Al-Attas, until with God's permission meredalah the storm.
After several years of habitation in Makkah, he moved again to Singapore, then returned to Indonesia and live in Pasar Minggu, Jakarta. There he built a mosque and a madrassa named Assa'adah. Assa'adah name meaning happiness is a gift of Habib Sholeh bin Mohsen Al Hamid (Embankment, Jember). The management of mosques and madrassas are then held by his son, Habib Salim bin Umar Al Attas. After a long stay there, he moved again to Condet, East Jakarta until his death.
Every year Habib Umar Akbar always perform Mawlid event in Cipayung, Bogor. To commemorate the birth was attended by thousands of people, from within and outside the country. For jamuannya, he slaughter 1,600 sheep, two camels and cook 25 tonnes of rice. When asked where that money, he simply answered "From God." Every day he led the Fajr prayer at his residence, in Condet, on a normal day there were about 300 people, and specifically on Friday rose to 1,000. Every Saturday he taught jurisprudence, and every Friday evening held a reading Mawlid Addiba'i in Cipayung, Bogor, from where he is known by the name of Habib Umar Cipayung.
Having devoted all his life in the path of Allah, he finally passed away the presence of God the Supreme on Wednesday evening of Thursday, August 11, 1999 M (1420 H) at the age of 108 years. He was buried in the cemetery of Al Hawi, Cililitan, Jakarta. Among children he is Habib Husain, Muhammad Habib, Habib Salim and Syarifah hesitations.
